the world is my home.

by Andrew S Adams

this place, it will
be the place i die.
not now, but someday-
i will need to die
in the same way
i was born.

not in this specific locale.
not in this city, perhaps.
but you see, in my perception of the world
the borders overlap.
and it matters not to me
in the end for who i fought.
it matters of little consequence
if i was patriotic or not.

i would not take a look back
if i died poor and alone
asking, "what went wrong?"
that's foolish, what will it matter when i'm gone?
i will not look back
a rich and cruel old man
asking if i obtained all the wealth
that an old man can.

i can not base my little life
on what greatness or wealth i achieved
the only way i can guage myself
is being happy that i lived-
and went through this thing
doing what was best
trying to live every day
as if the night would lead me
to my final rest.

i will die here,
how- i have no care.
but where ever i may roam,
i will always take joy
in calling the world my home.
