smoking (guns and bodies..)

by Andrew S Adams

gunshots ring out at a school-
meanwhile, the holocaust is born
40 years in the making.
in the early morning hours of easter,
lighting up is the last thing on my mind.
there are days marked by
violence, all honored by
sharing an anniversary
on one day in particular.
these moments move fast,
while the guy on the street is
grabbing at some grass.
on this day, they tell me some guy
rose from the dead.
i think a religion
let itself go to it's head-

there are more important things
than jesus christ.
there are more important things
than an easter bunny.

we must live this day in respect
of those who have died-
who will never again be alive.
