Play your part

by Aaron Howard

In this land of confusion, misery and pain
it leaves me wondering what do I have to gain?
Just gain a life to loose it all in one fail swoop?
Hatch it all from the egg to lose it to a wolf in the coop?
I lie to myself in a self warped fantasy of finally being free
and then get slammed back down to earth by the grip of reality.
I flew one, but now I’m grounded with my broken heart
but I guess in this play, I’ve played my part…

I knew once what I thought you were
but then you ended up, not even close to her.
I said all the thoughts out loud
and then I wasn’t as proud…
A marriage of convenience
in which we disregarded the distance…
I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to bring my heart…
but in all this, I guess I just played my scenery part…

The plot changes and the players fade from stage
in this play that teaches you your soul from your age..
