Leaving snowtracks

by Aaron Howard

Snow falling softly in my backyard while deer search for breakfast
these hours of perfection, these moments that never seem to last…
Sunrise through the break in the mountain ridge spearing the dark valley.
Reminding me of those few spare moments out in cali…
Wind blows the flakes into a flurry of action in swirling designs.
There is immaculate beauty all around us, can’t you see the signs?
Dark clouds fight with the sun for supremacy
while nature lives out her favorite fantasy.
Blanketing all the rocks and trees in white
and accomplishing this in only one night…
Covering the roads, so kids get out and play
since there won’t be any school for you today…
Snow’s beauty overtaking the landscape.
Offering one last chance for winter to escape.
Sunrise melts the blanket away in time
but for now it’s the time of the sublime…
Let it snow, let it cover my barn
Let it blow, let it do no harm…
Cover my streets of dirty black
and let me once again leave a fresh snow track…

Author's Note: This is about the beauty of snow... how it turns the dark streets into white paths of beauty.
