porcelain dreams

by Andrew S Adams

the telephone lived so distant in
your perception of mind.
the numbers were brittle stubs,
and the tones were faint fears
coming around full circle.

and as he would pick up this phone
some news, you could not bear.
with a blink of an eye, an electric
impulse in the brain-
you're right here to witness
my face shattered into a million
tiny divisions.

i am your porcelain dream-
spilling as i hit the floor
with the blast of me chipping
away at my very own soul
taking myself one step too far.
i am your recording looping in the
deepest crevacies of your psyche.
and what did i say in those few moments
before you called and i
ended it all?

you were the only one that could repair.
you were the only one that was always there.
you were the only one i thought actually cared
and you were the only one i loved so much i feared.

over, and over again.

but, you were moments too late-
right on time as always.
only when i'm fallen and broken and
off my own glory do you truly
feel and understand my being.

all this time, playing in your mind
the echoes of a scratched recording.

...you were the only one that could repair.
you were the only one that was always there.
you were the only one i thought actually cared
and you were the only one i loved so much i feared.

enter my room, welcomed to the scene
of my untimely beginning.
you, piece my porcelain face
together, one chard, by one chard
by one
chard.

and the only piece left alone
before i come complete:
the broken smile can not kiss
without your lips.

and i am ressurected in vivid life
as you wake from another dream
and pick up the phone-
bht the tones-
they're faint fears
slowly coming full circle.

Author's Note: i dont much care for anything after the 3rd stanza, and those portions will probably be rewritten.
