scene of the end

by Andrew S Adams

look down the street to
a car crash three days in the making
and wait so silently in the snow
and watch the windshield breaking
as the sudden flash of
red light, blue light
the constant scream of
the deafening siren.

look down a dead end road
past your old house return
to the place that you were raised
and remember what you were told
'one day you'll be big'
something special, they'd say.
well, looking back on life, right now
you must have been asleep that day.

missed chances and stolen glances
and tiresome dances just the same
way you used to as a kid but now
there's no one to dance with
just the cold snow and the blood
covering the burning wreckage
down that dead end street
dance with your own ghost.

lay in the open road.
stand back on the street
three days from the scene
of the end.

and remember.
just spontaneously
one day,
that could be you.

this is such a strong piece. the way it tells the story it puts the reader right into the eyes of the character, looking right down the road and seeing that wreckage... amazing andrew..

I agree, that the first verse really grabs your attention. This is very nicely done!
