To My Son by Charles E MinshallI do not grieve your going, I shall not shed a tear. No, I do not grieve you going, I've still so much of you my dear. A silly little curl of hair, A bootee and a dress, A worn out little pair of shoes, You were two then I guess. Your kindergarten picture, How proud you were to know That you could go to school, And I had worried so. A picture for each year in school, And the snapshots in between, And all the little things I've kept That keeps those memories green. I can not walk into your room And touch your desk or chair, Without that certain feeling That tells me you are there. No, I shall not grieve your going, I shall not shed a tear, For in my heart my darling, You'll always be right here.
01/26/2003 Author's Note: I left home and joined the Navy, my mother wrote this
The week after I left. I found it in her papers after
she passed away. The poem is by Ruth Walker Minshall
