Skyscrapers rubbing elbows with the moon

by Aaron Howard

Skyscrapers against the night sky, brilliant with lights and steam..
Where the world is as massive as it just might seem..
Concrete and steel against the world and elements..
As it stands out with what humanity truly represents..
Glass and steel to rub elbows with the harvest moon..
Lord knows the morning will come soon..
Sunbeams thru the cracks of sky and scraper..
As the commuters pick up their morning paper..
Lost in the bustle of the downtown lights..
Losing the battle for the stars and the nights..
Fighting for space a thousand feet above my head...
And this city like a skin that I want to shed...
No more steam from the sewers to seep into my mind..
No more high beaming taxi's to make me blind..
No more sirens running wild in the echo's of steel canyons..
No more sitting around on the train with my city companions..
Freedom from this glass and steel, concrete cage.
So open up the atlas and just pick a page...
Choose a place that's away from all this insanity
With your neighbors screaming profanity..
Just the sound of snow falling on leaves..
And into this new life he who goes, happily breathes..
No more smog on a Sunday morning...
No more earthquakes without warning..
No more despicable burglars to rob your home..
Just you with your friend peace... All alone..
The moon has it's own stage and no contender
So now I won't have to be the smiling pretender..
