words float around me by Gary Hoffmannwords float around me
like snow on a midwinter afternoon
falling in tiny swirls and gusts
dancing and laughing through my ears
soon to die (as faeries must)
the words land in piles and drifts
reflecting the cheerful happiness
of the grey clouds
(fog obfuscates distant trees
like ghostly vision of times forgot)
this snow is falsely white
hiding the frozen intent within
a chill breath from God
pretty snow, lifeless snow
heaven born multitudinous stars
blanketing trees and roads
and a thousand foreverfully dying birds
walk through the snow hand in soul
and let it effuse you
with the apathy that loneliness brings
(surrounded by clouds - a heavy fog -
that no longer (never did) know you
(past tense imperative)
and don't really care
despite the sun illuminating
the infinite ugly snow
