the night passes slowly

by Gary Hoffmann

the night passes slowly
sitting right here
listening to the quiet hum
of the darkness
waiting to sleep
but not yet tired
because my mind is too active
thinking of you
wishing you were here
or i was back again
in a world i've never been to
floating through the heavens
walking on the ether
guided by your eyes
which i can't remember
now that i'm alone
wanting to write
perhaps of your beauty
or perhaps of my love
but i'm not creative or clever
i cannot sing of your grace
or paint your soul on paper
my words have all been said before
by writers who cannot write
no poem would do you justice
so i will not try
stars would weep
and angels laugh
if i could kiss you now
for my heart would cry out
with a joy great enough
to be heard throughout the sky
but yet i'm here
and no dreams will come
to make the night pass by
so i sit thinking
hoping and wishing
that you are doing the same
and one day we'll meet
beneath a full moon
and dance until the night dies
