In the Sky

by Gary Hoffmann

the city lights far off shine
against the bumpy clouds
from underneath in pink
soft light red-orange ambience
shadows look like hills
and above me stars are bright
through the open sky
and darkness all around me
suddenly i forget the earth
and walk on those hills
and pick up the stars
and turn around to see you
so I drink
to forget your beautiful reflection
your shining blue eyes
and perfect red hair
and I drink
to forget how much you loved me
you slept in my arms
and stood by my side
when I left for a week
I thought I'd come back again
to see you smiling bright
but you're gone
all those tiny white pieces of Nirvana
spilled all o'er the floor
your eyes staring forever at the door
so goodnight
goodnight, my dear, goodnight
floating up in the clouds
I can see you again
laughing and smiling and enjoying life
those stars for a necklace
else you are naked
and in the sky once again
we will sleep
so goodnight, my dear, goodnight, my dear
we'll sleep once more in the sky
