Falling Star

by Martini Koy

I was walking along a lonely street
On a lonely starlit night
Whistling along and dragging my heavy feet
On that seemingly endless path.

The gust of cool wind
And the gray clouds hovering
Over the face of the silvery moon
Made the night even more lifeless.

'Twas supposed to be an uneventful night
As I continued my lazy march
Still with heavy feet.

I wasn't even near the end of my heavy journey
When a streak of light appeared before my sight
The light was white and the streak
Was smothered by the cold fog.

The glow caught my fancy
And so I went
To where I thought
The light had been.

There was this pebble at the place
Where the light was
I picked it up and placed it on my palms
'Twas still warm
And had the smell of a burning coal.

I came to realize
That it was a falling star
And now that star (well at least part of it)
Was in my hands.

Fantastic! I thought to myself
Out there from the heavens
From the sadness of that cold night
I came across a heavenly body
A piece of a falling star.

I kept that pebble
And carried it with me
Everywhere I went.

It reminded me of the love you gave me
Out of nowhere
You came into my cold existence
And amused me the way
The falling star did.

And I kept you in my heart
And carried you everywhere I went
Your love like the celestial pebble
Animated my life that was like
That cold lonely night.

Before I slept tonight
I reached inside my pocket
And could not find the stone.
I lost the pebble
I lost your love.
