Unreachable Love

by Martini Koy

My words of love ---
Like white pigeons,
Flew out of my mouth
Never to return again.

My words, like fertile seed
Fell on a heart like sandy soil ---
A heart that wasn’t beating for me.

I reaped withered seedlings
Never seeing its sapling growth.
My love was in vain,
My passion has failed.

In the thick cover of the forest
I took refuge ---
From the scornful heat of my lost love.

I waited for dusk to set
And I crawled out of the sheltering woods.

My eyes, like that of an owl’s,
Were staring at the moon full and bright.

My gaze never moved
But in my thoughts I heard myself saying,
“Like the moon so far away,
Will someone wait and love me back
Yes, like the moon so unreachable,
Will that someone also be …”
