The Midnight Sky of Change

by Martini Koy

Watching the dark midnight sky
Of another year’s transition,
I know the new year has begun
But the stars remain the same,
The moon still looks alike since the first time
I saw its face.

The cool wind passes with a gust
Touching my cheek it reminds me
Of how things pass by so quickly …
So brisk indeed that I even fail to notice its passing.

The clouds fly in gray silhouettes
Like light cotton they appear to me
Make me remember of things so light and full of joy
That happened to me in the year that just passed.

As I kept on gazing
Upon the sky so dark,
I came to see such thick rain clouds
That almost did completely block out
The light from the dazzling stars.

I was flooded with memories
Of sadness and of emptiness.
I always did hate
Such feelings of no use
But since they are a part of this life so mysterious
I know that they do have their own noble purposes.

As the past year rests on its eternal grave,
As I am reminded by so much of my life
And as I watch the heavens tonight,
I am comforted with the coming of this another year.

Isn’t it exciting to watch the night sky
Alone in reminiscent mood
To witness the changing of the year that was.
