The Gravity of the Sea

by Martini Koy

The boat rocks itself with the tumult of the sea
It leans to the left and to the right
As frequently as to its front and to its back.
But still it floats and moves and cuts
Its way through the waves of the living sea.

Outside the world is black
But comes the moon’s magnificent glow
Reflecting unto the water’s agitated face---
Accentuates with glitter
The darkness of this night in the sea.

Winds come from everywhere
With their loud and thunderous wailing
They need not warn us of their presence
For we know they are here in this perilous sea.

Squeaking doors and cracking ceilings
The painful slaps of the gushing wind on the ship’s torso
The endless grinding motion of this ship in the deep
I lay with my head swirling.

Inside nothing seem straight.
I see everything is moving ---
The tables, the chairs and yes the plates, too.

I wonder and I ask myself
Where in heaven’s sake could gravity be!
