Of Burdens and Faith

by Martini Koy

Never did problems shake me
For they make me strong
Never did they make life hard
For overcoming them makes life easy.

Never did death frighten me
For death is what makes me human
Never did it overshadow me
For shadows do not cover my soul.

Never did love make me cry
For love is joy
Never did it make me bitter
For love itself is sweet.

Never did failure make me lose hope
For it is in failure where hope begins
Never did it make me raise my hands for surrender
For I raised them to hold on to success.

Never did goodbyes sadden me
For in every goodbye there is a hello
Never did I refuse to say goodbye
For refusing can't make it stay forever.

Never did poverty make me hungry
For it is in poverty where the soul is full
Never did it make me hungry for wealth
For wealth is not food but trash.

Never did these plagues weaken me
For I find strength in my God
Never did they make me bedridden
For my strength is in my God.
