Barefoot Once More

by Martini Koy

The motherland is in anguish
It's steward has betrayed her.
She is woeful and crying...again

She was raped once before
By the president and the first lady
The man looted gold
The woman bought so much shoes.

The nation was without gold
It did not have food.
The people had no shoes
Their feet were aching.

But a widow healed the nation
The people were free once more
They were breathing again
There was dancing in the streets.

Now the shadow of the past has returned.
The nation is in peril.
Once more in danger of molestation
Again in the throes of despair.

Steal no more oh steward of the motherland
She has no gold to loot
She is barefoot once more...

(A tribute to the Philippines)
