Back in the Woods

by Martini Koy

Nothing but traces of soft sunlight
Peeking through thick leaves
Of tall ancient trees.

Old...brown...stagnant air
Not even a tinge of oxygen
Constricting...toxic...killing.

Shoes damp and smelly
Treading on swampy, muddy soil
Decomposing leaves, dry branches, rotten fuits.

Yesterday, bathing in sunlight
Today, back in the woods.

Author's Note: I wrote this poem years ago when I had to live with my parents (again). I had to go back inside my closet! Imagine that!
