The Sandman

by Angela Hanska

Sleep beckons from the bedside,
Opening its arms, the inviting nothingness,
Snores from below
of one already there

I must not give in
I must fight
For my promise I have given
To help mom out

Yawns coming more often now
Enticing me to close my eyes
But I must stay awake
Until 12 the clock strikes

For at that time
Sleep may take me
To the world of dreams
And keep me there until tomorrow
