"Baby Shower" or
"Kids Say The Darndest Things"?
[read to the end]
September 18th began the "gathering" in Goldsboro in our home and across town at our youngest son's home, which use to be my brother's home before he passed away from lung cancer in my arms in January 2020 at our community's Hospice. Another story, another time. Our oldest and youngest sons are single fathers with 3 children each and our only daughter has none. The reason for our gathering is Wade's brother's only child and son, Alexander. Zander and Sarah got married in a castle in Europe last year and now are expecting a daughter due on my brother-in-law 's birthday. Sarah is a direct descendant of Josephine and Napoleon and they are having a baby girl and naming her Josephine. My sister-in-law, MaryAnna, the expectant grandmother to be, was born in Germany, where her father was from [may her parents RIP] and owned a cannery. MaryAnna and her family migrated from Germany during her senior year in high school. Her mother was an American citizen and her father became one. Ken and MaryAnna were high school sweethearts and the best in laws one could ever have. I can clue you that they are very liberal and so was my vaccinated and twice boosted [covid vaccinated] mother-in-law [also now passed away and another story]. Sarah has a brother with a transsexual boyfriend. At the wedding in Europe, one of Sarah's friends came over to meet my mother-in-law with a nice friendly "meow". Melba simply smiled and echoed a "meow" back- she was so cool, the best and sweetest MIL a girl could ever have. And now....I am in a car heading to the baby shower with all my girls and little Legend, our youngest grandson, now 6 years old.
We are gathering for the baby shower in Raleigh. Rose came in from Rocky Mount along with her 2 brothers and stayed at Robbie's where she has her own bedroom. Melissa drove down from Candler which is in the Appalachian Mountains near Asheville NC. Our 2 oldest grandaughters (from our oldest son) both have driver's licenses and 1 just graduated high school. They are coming in from Cedar Falls, near Ashboro and NC Zoo.
As we rode together, Legend mentioned he liked going to baby showers because he had recently gone to another one with his mom (his parents are split up with shared custody) and told us all about the food and fun and he knew what it was all about. Melissa was asking Legend about school and he said he broke up with his girlfriend from kindergarten and didn't like like little girls anymore.
That is fine with me because I am not a big fan of little kids mimicking big kids playing at romance. Not in kindergarten and first grade, especially. So.....
Our daughter asked him why he broke up with Aniyah, the girlfriend he had in kindergarten. And this is what he said:
"The reason why I broke up with Aniyah is because she wet her pants on the playground"
How wasn't laughing either.
He was dead serious.
