Canadian Health Care - No Need To Beware.
11/18/2005 10:34 p.m.
Just returned from the doctors. Got an examination, flu shot, X rays, & a month's supply of pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs for $8.25 (damn dispensing fee). It's good to be Canadian. (We do pay full price for beer & back bacon - take off eh).

MAIL FOR C.S.
11/04/2005 08:43 p.m.
As I am on a new mail route, I am just learning the names & addresses of my customers (not to mention the diabolical placement of the mail boxes). Had a letter today for a young lady(?) whose parents apparently attempted to predestine her career path by their name selection. Have you ever heard of a more fitting name for a female wrestler or a headliner stripper than..........Chastity Savage?*

*I'm bad with names. This one I'll never forget. She's probably a church secretary, or a CEO.

Daylight Savings Time & Bambi
10/30/2005 01:07 p.m.
After resetting the zillion clocks and devices about my apartment, I opened the curtains this morning to view the dawn of a promising day, weather- wise at least. The birds were already chirping with gusto and a squirrel was canvassing the lawn searching for peanuts I had not yet set out. And then it hit me!

They did not know! No one has informed them! The angle of the sun tells them it's 7:22 a.m. But we've turned back the clocks. Without their knowledge! It's 6:22 a.m. sparrows! Should we tell them? Hey calico cat creeping up the stairs, across the street - you're an hour ahead of yourself Fluffy. Big ol' fat black dog sleeping on the porch next door - lunch is NOT as close as you think. Should we keep it as an inside joke? Thaaat's right starlings, the sun won't be going down for a long while yet (heheh).

What to do, what to do? All of Nature - clueless without a Timex.

PLATINUM CARD FOR PUSSY!
10/27/2005 10:44 p.m.
The credit card market is a cut throat competition and no one knows that better than a postie. We are flooded daily with mountains of card offers, not only from our Canadian banks, but recently from American companies - after the untapped Canuck buck. MBNA, Capital One, Citi Bank, they literally have weekly mailings, bombarding an ever-widening mailing list with perks & introductory offers. They imply that you are part of an elite, exclusive group, handpicked for the honor of wielding their plastic.

I have gotten a laugh in the past, at some of the "exclusive" targets of these cards on my mail walk - drifters, grifters & assorted ne'r-do-wells who would abscond with the fillings in your teeth given half a chance. But today was the topper. Mr. Meyer Jaboni got a pre-approved application for a credit card. Not just any card - a platinum card. Not just any platinum card - a MasterCard Platinum PLUS card.

Mr. Meyer Jaboni is my cat. Gonna ink up his paw pad - send off the application - and await his spanking new card. After buying Science Diet for the little bastard for fifteen years it's about time he repaid me - with a plasma T.V. bought with a 0% interest rate perhaps. Gooooood kitty!

TUCSON (Live)
10/20/2005 12:08 a.m.
For those who had queries & curiosities about Tucson, a live webcam from the UA campus showing the Santa Catalinas and the glorious Arizona skys can be found at http://www.cs.arizona.edu/camera/

I use it as a home page - especially in Winter, to warm the cockles of this soon- to- be- frozen Canadian boy's cockles.

"Goodbye Good Life"
10/15/2005 09:49 p.m.
6:30 Saturday October 15
Well I guess it serves me right. The idyllic moment described in the previous post (three hours ago), was just that. A moment. The power was knocked out by the thunderstorm, screwing up my Internet connection, killing my tunes, the baseball game - and warming my brew. Ahhh..back to normalcy!

Oh yeah - the cat just hurled a furball the size of Rhode Island on the carpet. Expecting a meteorite at any second. Damn.

"The Good Life"
10/15/2005 06:47 p.m.
2:30 p.m. Saturday October 15
Eating pistachios, washed down by icy cold beers, watching a spectacular thunderstorm, my cat by my side, stereo blasting, daily chores already conquered, new magazines waiting to be read and baseball on the tube tonight.

Every leap year or so life gives you a quick, furtive glance at true serenity - before the shit inevitably begins to fly again in short order. Take whatcha can get.

p.s. pistachios come in a resealable bag. Hahahahahaha!!!

Upon Being Stung On The End Of Your ***** By A Bee .
10/08/2005 01:04 a.m.
Upon Being Stung On The End Of Your Prick By A Bee During A Round Of Golf. Your first shriek will attract the attention of the other players in the foursome who will wonder what the hell's the matter. When they find out, your further wild gesticulations will throw your golf playing opponents into fits of laughter especially as words of your desperate concern for the well being of your front tail reaches their ears. Take consolation that their game for the day will be ruined by the muscle strain occasioned by their continuous convulsive laughter and take the opportunity to bet heavily on yourself. And keep your fly closed.*

Saving Snails(NOT)By the Seashore.
09/30/2005 11:01 p.m.
Does anyone else rescue snails? Due to poor I.Q.s or feeble weather forecasting skills they venture out onto the sidewalks, only to find, halfway across, that the concrete begins to feel like the grill at Chilies. Gently rock them sideways, carry them to a shaded garden area, setting them down slowly - so that they re-emerge from their overheated shells and don't topple over. Lecturing them, I have found, is futile - they have no concept of escargot.

9/11
09/10/2005 05:05 a.m.
This is definitely one of those dates. J.F.K. assassination. Moon landing. This. As a Canadian, I don't think the impact of 9/11 was one iota lessend. As a letter carrier, we were called to the T.V. in the lunch room after repeated claims by (we thought), knuckleheads that a plane flew into the world trade towers. Yeah. Right. Then, a few minutes later, that the Pentagon had been hit. Everybody's in the lunch room. Had to go out on our mail routes. Craziest thing. No one on the streets. No one. Each porch you climb - T.V. blaring - people frozen. Two hours into my walk, stopped in to my bar (on my route), people transfixed. What's happening? I asked. The towers have collapsed, someone said. Yeah. Right. Went out and finished my walk - the streets absolutely deserted. Went home after my run and spent the remainder of the day as did everyone - hypnotized with horror. Watched through midnight, only later realizing it was my birthday.
