The Fate of Heroes

by Vince Blake

a cliche
sat down at the bar
ordered a scotch
and boasted softly
of bygone years
he'd spent being

a legend

Love this...it reminded me of some scenes from Simon R. Green's Nightside books...where so many gods became legends, then rumours, then clichés...you summed up that little progression in a damn near perfect gathering of 21 words.

I may be off by saying this, but this is surely a beautiful way to say "has-been".

If it's the "The Fate of Heroes" can you please explain why we immortalize them? Thanks Vince.

Yeah, somehow the person who has to talk about it probably isn't the real-deal hero/legend, but I like the book-ends on this, the color, and pondering the fate of us humans. Thanks for this.

...man, like a good stick of gum, the flavor lasts on this [uppy, vince...the 'packaging' of this is a shiny glint in addition, sorta bracketed the world and our perception(don't get me started), eh?
