Peter Paul & Mary &

by Rhiannon Jones

Suckled on the sounds of silence
Acoustic space carved room
For slow-tasting fire and rain
Parsley, sage, rosemary
And time
Plenty of time
To imagine
Carole King made me feel
She made me feel
Like a natural woman
So Long (So long…so long….)
Before MTV
We listened with eyes closed
To Puff and Jackie Paper
As we grew
Older

Music just isn't like it used to be! I was suckled on the same. This is great!

I love this poem! Is that too telling on my age?:)

Amazing piece, Rhiannon. Though I must admit I am part of the "older generation" that seems to suckle on the MTV-drone, I believe I was born much too late for my time, as I too find much more pleasure in REAL tunes as you mentioned. Thank you, for this :)

Thank you, Rhiannon for “This Magic Moment”. As someone who is obsessed with the music of my youth as “God Only Knows”, this is now one of “My Souvenirs” and went immediately into my favorites. There is always “Something” as I “Listen to the Music” of those days, “If You Know What I Mean”.

Some classics here and a clever segue from Puff to growing older. Thanks for the memories.

Sometimes the flash of multimedia show overshadows the simple sound of great music and great lyrics. All these artists had great songs and melodies, many of which are still played. I am an NC guy and Sweet Baby James as he was known then, created these marvelous images with words. Who can forget "Fire and Rain". I compare it, although not on the same artistic scale, to Taylor Swift. I saw as a lead in act to Brad Paisley, with just an acoustic guitar. I much preferred that to the multimedia show that sometimes overwhelms the simplicity and elegance of a great song and great lyrics.

Folk music of the 60's and 70's were my life blood. If I could just remember who did what! Great write lady!!!
