Dear Jessica by Jeremy Magee
I remember you and your precious laugh.
Your plastic necklaces and
flowery sun dresses. You held
her heart inside your palm.
Your smile is that of a
glorious sunset, the calmed
washing of a sea, lulled into
slumber by the moon.
I will always think of you
when snow falls. I imagine your
eyes, your hand searching for
hers and swinging at air.
The first time I held you,
I cried like a child. You twisted
your necklace in your hand and
called out to her with a smile.
I hope to hold you again,
mumbling about the light that has faded.
You won't understand a word I say,
until her name falls from the sky.
