Defining Myself

by Shonda Chrissonberry

I refuse to define myself as a woman
based upon the monthly events of
4 certain days

and when those days do cycle about
it is not a reminder of my womanhood
or the curse thereof
but rather a reminder that my womb ~
the cradle of motherhood ~ is empty

waiting for the gentle stirring
that miracle of life to welcome itself
to nourish and to grow
in safety
in love
inside of me

that is what I will allow to define me
as a woman ~ my journey into motherhood

Author's Note: thanks to Stephan Anstey for the "outstanding flow" topic ~ not quite sure if this was what he had in mind, but this is what it became

This begs the question, "is it necessary to define oneself?" I believe in constant self creation and renewal. We change from moment to moment and life engulfed in love.
