Words at Play
Come here to play with words ... watch them twist and turn and dance and sing. Learn different forms, such as abecedarians, acrostics, anagrams, concrete, limericks, palindromes, and more! And whet the wit that makes these forms work.

Learn something new - 01/19/2005 by Sallie Mattison
If you already know what an amphigouri is, then you probably already have the perfect entry for the Words at Play contest by the same name. Details about the amphigouri competition are posted on the Words at Play, General, and Poetry Contest forums.
So try something new, whip up an amphigouri, and then let Melina know. Deadline is Valentine's Day, so hurry!
Whew! Too much dust in here - 11/12/2004 by Sallie Mattison
I just realized it's been ages since we posted poems to feature here. So I cleaned out those dusty cobwebs and am waiting for you to tell me which NEW works you want to see featured here.

I Need Your Help - 10/24/2003 by Sallie Mattison
I would like to feature one (or two) poem(s) from each member here, but it's so difficult to choose! So I need your help.
Please pm me and let me know your favorite three words at play poems in your library so I can choose one to feature. I'd like to be able to rotate the poems after a few months. The only criteria is that the poem needs to be in a fun form, like abecedarian, limerick, acrostic, whatever. It's nice if the title can somehow reflect that, but it's not required.
Short and Sweet - 09/30/2003 by Sallie Mattison
Okay, so maybe the limerick circle was a little too specific and I simply didn't have enough time to devote to teaching the form.
I thought we could take a different direction. Let's have fun with ALL fun forms of poetry! We can work on abecedarian, acrostic, limericks, palindromes, whatever! Or better yet, make some up!! Anyone who wants to co-moderate with me, just speak up. I need all the help I can get. ;-)
Who's ready to limmie? - 03/14/2003 by Sallie Mattison
Okay, gang, I just posted the first limmie lesson on the message board. Here is the "lesson plan" I'll be following:
- proper form
- meter
- rhyme schemes
- choosing a subject
- double entendres and word play
- what works, what doesn't, and why
Your first assignment is to read the lesson and post a limerick for critique.
